The drill team in Haiti thank
Fellowship of Man (Toronto, ON) Solinst Canada Ltd. (Georgetown, ON) For building their capacity with Rebuild South Retaining/Security Wall |
A message from the community |
Dear Sir/Madame, Thank you so much for your support on this project. The security wall was in need of repair after the damage from the hurricane Mathew... over 150 feet of this 12 foot high wall collapsed under the intense rainfall. This left our compound open to bad people who would steal the very equipment and supplies that we store here to drill wells to give people safe drinking water. With the engineering plans from Canada and the supervision of Lifewater Canada volunteers, the wall is now rebuilt, better than ever! Every 10 feet there is a big cement beam called a buttress with 6 pieces of heavy rebar in a 3 foot by 2 foot angled beam that is anchored to a big cement pad buried deep below the ground. The wall itself has rebar inside every 20 cm, both straight across and up and down. All the spaces in the blocks are filled with concrete. We could never have done this without you. There is no wall like this in all of Haiti! We think that even if all Haiti falls down in an earthquake or hurricane, this wall will remain standing! Thanks so much for giving us this gift of wall and encouragement! Yours truly, Lifewater D'Haiti Team |
