John Hill Community is located on a hill before you get to Bong Mines' bus stop in Bong Mines, which is found in Fuamah District in Lower Bong County, Liberia. The community has a population of 725 including mainly women and children. The issue of safe drinking water was serious problem that needed to be addressed, because this community is situated on a very steep hill. A hand-dug well was dug at the bottom of the hill, and during the rainy season, the water pushed all the dirt and mud from up the hill and carried it in to the hand-dug well making the well unsafe for drinking; causing diseases like typhoid, running stomach, skin rashes. The women and children then resorted to walking 30 minutes to the community of Bassa Town to get safe drinking water from a Lifewater Well recently constructed. Our team in Liberia held a Health & Hygiene Workshop for this community on July 3,17 with 35 participants. This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support! |
