A message from the community |

Dear Sir: When we witnessed the drilling in our neighbouring village, we were very excited to find out we too were due to get a new well. It has made a huge difference to all of us, but especially to the children who have had to haul the water from quite a ways away. Now it is central to our town and we are all very grateful. Please know we will remember you always and promise to care for this well with all the new information that was offered to us in the workshop. Saah Tambuk, Town Chief |

Mende Town Quarter#5 is located within the 15 Gate area around the Firestone Plantation belt. The Town was founded in the 60's before the Liberian civil crisis. It is a large populated Town with dominantly women and children. Their basic livelihood of these people is subsistence farming and petty businesses as well as working on the rubber plantation. Their main source of water is from open hand dug wells and nearby creeks. Based on facts gathered concerning their poor health conditions we fond that they suffered often from water borne diseases, which claimed the lives of many of they small children. The Health and Hygiene Team from Lifewater made a difference by conducting a workshop, teaching how to prepare oral rehydration solution and explaining how disease was transmitted.
This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support! |
