Some community details (provided by our in-country partners) |

Ajuye is a fast-growing community with very little access to social amenities like a public water supply. The people have been suffering from a shortage of water for years. Due to an increasing population, the community wells were over-used, broke down, and could not be fixed. The absence of community water and sanitation facilities meant people had to walk hours each day for water. Day in and day out, the routine consumed their lives. Worse still, the water was not clean and often made families sick. During our visit, we rehabilitated this broken-down well (including replacing the hand pump) and also drilled two new wells. We also taught residents the importance of having their pumps always working. We gave the people a maintenance kit and left a caretaker in charge. Today, the community doesn't have to go a day without water. |
