A message from the community

My name is Judith Akinyi. I am a parent and a resident of Ugenya Community. Mine is to Thank you for the latrine and the water tank as well as the handwashing station. It is a blessing to see you reaching out to us in that manner. We have experienced dark years but now you have come with light, that I am grateful for.

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

Ogenya Primary School in Nyando sub-county, Kisumu County has 563 students. Ogenya Primary School was started so to provide education to students whose former school was submerged by floods 3 years ago.

After losing their school and homes to floods, the community had to start from scratch. While they ensured that their children were back in school as soon as possible, they could not afford the construction of latrines for the community. This left the option of makeshift toilets and open defecation which then led to the spread of diseases.

To curb the spread of water-borne disease among students and the community at large, Lifewater Canada funded the construction of a six-door latrine at Ogenya Primary School.

Judith Akinyi, a resident of the Ogenya community says that she is very grateful to have latrines, adding that the latrines are a luxury in the community and that the ones provided by Lifewater Canada are the best well-constructed latrines the community has ever had.

Every $1 you give provides a child with safe water for a year!
