Some community details (provided by our in-country partners) |

Kawelu Primary School in Mwingi Central, in Kenya's Kitui County, has 320 students. To beat the long drought that usually hits the region annually, school administrators wanted to invest in rainwater catchment and storage facilities, but the cost was too high. Therefore, the small amount of rainwater that could be stored wasn't enough to serve the school during drought. Thankfully, Lifewater Canada donors significantly increased the school’s rainwater harvesting capacity recently by providing a catchment system that includes a large 10,000-litre storage tank and hand-washing station. The students are hopeful that when all the water sources dry up during the next drought, there will still be stored water at the school to meet their daily drinking and sanitation needs. |
