Mwalili Primary School in Mwingi Central, in Kenya's Kitui County, has 290 students. The school relies on rainfall for its water. Unfortunately, it never had adequate facilities to harvest and store enough rain. The students would spend days in school without any water -- exposing them to great thirst and to poor hygienic conditions and consequently, the spread of diseases.

Lifewater Canada donors greatly enhanced the school’s capacity to harvest and store water by providing a rainwater catchment system which includes a large 10,000-litre storage tank and hand-washing station.

Deputy Headteacher, Samuel Musee says the system has provided not only safe drinking water, but a defense against diseases. He calls the water project a wonderful gift.
