Kavisu Secondary School in Nguni, Mwingi Central in in Kenya's Kitui County, has 204 students. The school always hoped to invest in facilities to harvest and store enough rainwater to meet their needs even during the dry seasons, but the administration and parents committee could never raise enough money. Recently, Lifewater Canada donors provided a rainwater harvesting system that includes a large 10,000-litre storage tank and handwashing station. “Rains here come for a very short time and go for a very long time,” says Onesmus Musyoka, the school's Deputy Principal. "It’s dry for the most of the year." Now, thanks to the new system, the school can gather enough water during the rainy season to ensure everyone has enough to drink and wash with during the dry season.
