A message from the community

We, the Kamulalani Primary School community, want to express our gratitude to Lifewater Canada for remembering us with a new water tank and handwashing station. We are really happy we can harvest and consume safe water. Thank you so much.

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

Kamulalani Primary School in Nguni, Mwingi central in Kenya's Kitui County, has 362 students. There is a river nearby but the time students were spending going to and from it a couple of days each week was keeping them out of class and leaving them too tired sometimes to pay attention to their teachers. The river water is also dirty, which caused many illnesses.

Lifewater Canada donors provided a rainwater harvesting system which includes a large 10,000-litre storage tank and handwashing station. Now, the school can store water during the rainy season to ensure there is enough to meet everyone's on-site needs during the dry season.

Nancy Wangechi, a Grade 6 student, says she and her classmates no longer need to go to the river during school days, giving them more time to focus on their studies. She appreciates that the rainwater is also much safer for human consumption.
