Uke is along the Abuja-Keffi expressway. To obtain water, residents were forced to walk across the always busy four-lane road. Children have been hit and killed while trying to collect water for their families. They were going to a nearby river -- one whose water is tainted and likely to cause diarrhea and other sicknesses.

In response to residents' suffering, Lifewater relied on its donors to fund the drilling of two new wells (including this one) that are providing safe and easily accessible water to everyone in Uke. No longer are children risking their lives for water.
