A message from the community |

We write to express our deepest gratitude to you for your kind gesture to us. Making safe, clean, reliable water accessible to us is truly a miracle! We live in one of the driest areas in Mallam Karo Kwaka and water has always been our biggest problem. When it rains, we all draw water from the Kawu hills. When rainfall decreases as it has in the last 10 years, the streams dry up and people must walk up to 10 kilometers in search of water. This new water well will take care of our domestic water needs. It is our hope that our community health and living standard will significantly improve by this singular act of kindness. We will ensure reliable maintenance of the well. -- Alhassan Abdulahi, Community Leader |

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners) |

During the rainy season, the people of Mallam Karo Kwaka would try their best to harvest and store rainwater. But it would last for only a few weeks. And in recent years, when the rainy season has been especially brief, very little could be harvested and stored. The dry season has become longer, and the search for water forced residents to walk much further from their homes. Meanwhile, the collected water was dirty -- leading to typhoid and other diarrheal diseases. "We have had a lot of challenges," concluded local resident Dalhatu Adamu. Therefore, he and his entire community were very thankful when, when thanks to our donors, Lifewater drilled a well in Mallam Karo Kwaka. Today, there is safe and easily accessible water for everyone in the community. |
