When the hand pump on one of the two wells in Agwan Bagobiri Gwachipe failed, many residents had to begin walking to and from the river four kilometres away to gather water for their families. This water is open to the elements and therefore unsafe to drink. Some people would buy their water from vendors but the prices were very high so very few residents could afford it. "Our children would suffer from stomach aches, diarrhea, and typhoid after consuming water from the river," recalls Ezra, a longtime resident. "But today, our hearts are full of joy knowing all this is history (after Lifewater, thanks to our donors, replaced the broken hand pump). We are grateful to God and Lifewater for providing safe and healthy water." |
