After the hand pump on their well failed, the students and staff at Government Secondary School in Tufa spent the next 10 years with no safe water source. Children would leave their classrooms each day in search of enough water to drink. They never found enough to also enable them to wash or to use in the school toilets. Therefore, the students were often thirsty and the school was a breeding ground for diseases and infections, resulting in many children staying home or dropping out.

Recently, Lifewater learned about the children's struggles and replaced the hand pump on school's well. Now safe water is finally available to everyone -- ending a decade of suffering.
