For nine months, after the hand pump on their well failed, children in Central Primary School in Tufa had no safe water. They were forced to drink from shallow hand-dug wells. The water in the wells isn't safe, which meant students became sick and stayed home. The wells themselves are also unsafe because they have a wide opening into which children can fall and drown. Fortunately, Lifewater visited the school recently and rehabilitated the well, including replacing the broken hand pump. Now safe, and easily accessible water is available to everyone again. The students are healthier and therefore more focused on their studies. They and their parents thanked Lifewater Canada and our donors for the restored well. |
