We appreciate Lifewater Canada/Nigeria for providing us with water. Before now, our women and children suffered greatly due to lack of water. May almighty God bless you. Community Leaders |

Jikwoyi is on the outskirts of Abuja, Nigeria's capital city. This urban slum is densely populated because most public servants who work in the city are attracted by its low cost of housing. Unfortunately, with low costs comes low-quality public services, including low-quality water. Some Jikwoyi residents could afford to dig or drill their own wells. But most people were forced to depend on an unreliable government-managed water system or on expensive water vendors. Sadly, there are some families who could not afford the vendors and would send their children out into the streets in search of water. Noah, a local man, told our drilling team that young girls looking for water have been lured into private residences and raped. "Here, you see the good, the bad, and the ugly," Noah said. "Young girls are being assaulted and raped because of water.” Thanks to generous Lifewater Canada donors, Jikwoyi now has a deep, dependable well that is providing safe and easily accessible water in the community. Our intervention is helping to provide health and safety for Jikwoyi's children. |
