Some community details (provided by our in-country partners) |

Sullu endured water scarcity for many years. Children and adults were forced to fetch water from an unsafe stream, which exposed them to diarrheal diseases. Climate change has made things worse as pastoralists -- or cattle herders who migrate from one grazing area to another -- moved into the area and began competing with the Sullu people for precious water. The pastoralists' cattle contaminated the local stream even more, and made the fight for scarce water increasingly challenging. The competition for water between the Sullu and the pastoralists led to violence and, in some cases, even deaths. During our visit, thanks to our generous donors, we drilled two wells (including this one) in Sullu that are providing safe, disease-free water for everyone. The community's health has improved, and so has people's safety. |
