A message from the community

Dear Lifewater & Sponsor,

On behalf of the Hawah Avenue Community, we would like to say a big thank you for the hand pump constructed in our community.

The pump will certainly end our water struggle.

Once again we say thank you.

Sincerely yours,

Mary Teah

Head Lady

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

The Hawah Avenue Community is located along the Marshall Highway in the lower Margibi County, close to Kpain Town and Kparkpacon Town.

This area is very sandy with many palm trees and coconut trees all over the place. There is no hand dug wells here due to the deep sand, therefore the people had to use the water from the nearby creeks and swamps. There are many villages behind that are also lacking safe water. Therefore the children would have to walk a long ways to Kpain Town to get safe drinking water from a Lifewater Hand pump.

The people were very grateful to participate at the Health & Hygiene Workshop conducted on February 27, 2018. The lessons included - Ebola Lecture, Disease Transmission (Pathway), Disease Transmission (Blocking), Water Chlorination, Hand Washing and ORS Preparation.

During the workshop training, many of the mothers shared the problem of keeping babies alive. They haul water from the same places as animals, places where they fish and gather crawfish.

One old woman shared that the only time they could drink hand pump water was when the girls cross the busy, dangerous coal tar highway to the well that Lifewater drilled in Kpain Town. The distance is very far and everyone worries that they have such a load and tired that they be hit by fast car.

Everyone rejoices with the new pump and the community was trained how to keep it in good condition. They plan to burn and make coal to raise funds to repair pump when spoiled!

This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support!
