On April 23, 2018 a Health & Hygiene Workshop was conducted for the Dark Forest Communities Quarter #1,2,3,4 combined. The 25 participants observed and learned healthier practices to apply to their daily life. Dark Forest Community quarter #3 has an undulating land formation with the lack of clean water and other basic social services remaining a huge problem for the locals. In the rainy season, the community is the same of flood. Almost every dirty water coming from other parts of the town flows into the valleys that runs through the community. So at this time of the year, even the hand dug wells around the area are no longer useful to the people. This possesses a very difficult health conditions for the population, especially the women and children. For their part, the children at this time of the year they are more vulnerable to diarrhea and skins diseases because they are running all in the rain and bathing in the rain water. The issue of health and hygiene education for women in this community cannot be overemphasis. Our health and hygiene team was overwhelm with questions emanating from the one day workshop held in the community to education them about the need to take their health in their own hands to embrace a clean environment and care for the hand pump that is being drilled in their area. This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support! |
