Beesayma Community (Quarter #2) is located on the Monrovia-Buchanan Highway. Because of the civil conflict in Liberia 21 years ago, citizens ran from their towns and villages to seek refuge in the bush. So upon their arrival they began cutting sticks and gathering mud to build shelters to live in, like many African villages. The name Beesayma in the Bassa language means dubbing houses, that means - "houses built with mud". Most of the inhabitants remain there up to this day. The only sources of water for this community have been open hand dug wells and water from the shallow swamps, as a result many health issues have affected the people, mostly women and children. This new well will provide safe clean water for this community, giving them health and hope for a better future. On August 18, 2018 a Health & Hygiene Workshop was held for the people in this community with 23 participants. During the workshop the people learned the importance of a clean environment, and how diseases are carried and transmitted by flies, roaches, rats and mosquitos. The people also learned how to treat water, if needed, before consumption to avoid sickness and disease. The participants were very thankful for what they had learned and truly believe that Safe Water is Life!
This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support!
