Some community details (provided by our in-country partners) |

Dirt Hole Community has a population of 930 people. This area originally was an old dump site for garbage disposal, during the operations of the Liberian-American-Swedish Iron Ore Mining Company. The company called this area"Dirt Hole", and the community still uses that name. This area is very swampy and during heavy rainfalls and during the rainy seasons, swamp water overflows and contaminates the hand dug wells in this community. With this being their only source of water, many have suffered from running stomach, typhoid and other water borne diseases, including a very high death rate. There is no clinics, schools or churches because a lot of people have gone to other communities for health solutions, education and church services. Every year from July to September the flooding forces people to leave their houses and seek shelter elsewhere. With this new well in a good location, 80 feet deep, installed with a cement pad to prevent flood water contamination, safe water is provided for this community to help them live a healthier life. We also had our Health & Hygiene team conduct a workshop on September 25, 2018 to teach lessons on good Health & Hygiene practices, that will also help the people live safer and prevent sickness within their community.
This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support! |
