A message from the community |

Dear Sir; Your visit to us is like a miracle, such was our delight to have you come to plant a well in our remote village. Words are not enough to express what this means to us. It is a struggle to live here and always our children have to walk far to attend school, now the need to go far for water as well has been eliminated. We are very grateful. Thank you so much Respectfully yours, Adam Harace Town Chief |

The Walahbo Town is located across The river behind Zerdouhbo town in District #4, Grand Bassa county just after the LAC plantation. This town is inaccessible with vehicles due to the big river that separates district #4 from the rest of the LAC area. In order to get across the water to this area, one has to board a canoe and then walk for about 2 hours from the river to this town. This town is unusual because it has a very less youthful population dominantly old people - both women and men over 55 years old! Their main source of water is from the floating river and creeks in the surrounding area. Life in this part Liberia is very challenging for there are no basic social services such as schools or a hospital. To attend school, after the children have collected the day's water, they walk to the 2 hours to where they catch the canoe to attend the LAC plantation school system. This the route for any emergency or need for medical attention; they will have to cross and go to LAC hospital which more than four hours walk from this town. Based on these findings, the Health & Hygiene Team conducted a workshop teaching the participants basic hygiene practices to improve their health particularly women and children. The team demonstrated to them the process of chlorinating water for domestic use.The Workshop ended with round of applause to the Team and the sponsors of this all important program organized for this Town.
This well was drilled as part of a cooperative NGO initiative to provide safe drinking water to all Liberian's. Thanks to ''The Last Well Inc.'' for their coordination and support! |
