We the people of Barclay Farm want to express our thanks and appreciation for the construction of a new well in our community. This is the first well since this town came into existence. May God bless you all. -- William George, Community Leader
Barclay Farm Zone Three, Q1 was established in 2005 by a retiree from the Firestone rubber plantation. The community has grown to about 1,000 people -- almost all of them struggling to earn enough to feed their families, and totally dependent on open hand-dug wells to meet their drinking and other water needs. These wells are open to the elements and therefore often contaminated, resulting in many people becoming sick. Women and children would walk long distances to reach these water sources. This used up valuable time and energy each day, said village chief Afred Kotu, that could have been better used to care for their households or to be in school. Thanks to our donors, Lifewater recently drilled a well in the community that is providing consistently safe and accessible water to everyone. We also hosted a Health and Hygiene workshop to help restore and protect residents' health. Chief Afred thanked the team for their hard work and the benefits the new well is already having in her community.
