The people of New Jerusalem want to appreciate Lifewater for replacing our hand pump. May God bless you. -- Stephen Cooper, Community Leader
New Jerusalem Community is along the Kakata Highway before the Fendell junction in Liberia's Montserrado County. Lifewater provided the community with its first reliable source of safe drinking water when we drilled a well there in 2016. A few months ago, the well's hand-powered pump broke. That forced residents to fetch water from old hand-dug wells -- some of them more than a half-hour walk from home. The time needed to gather this water caused girls to arrive late for school or to sometimes not even make it to class. Meanwhile, those who could afford it bought mineral water to avoid the risk of becoming sick from the contaminated water in the shallow hand-dug wells. With help from our donors, Lifewater replaced the broken hand pump and restored the flow of safe, accessible water in New Jerusalem. Community leaders thanked Lifewater and our partners for the pump and ending their water challenges.
