Yasomba Pre-School

The Yasomba Pre-School community in Mwingi is thankful to Lifewater Canada for providing us with a 10,000-litre rainwater harvesting and storage tank. This has helped so much when it comes to taking care of our young students and providing enough water to drink. -- Community Leaders

Yasomba Pre-School in Mwingi central constituency, in Kenya's Kitui County, has 36 students. It was started to prepare young children for primary-level education, but as teacher Priscilla Katuu explains, the school has been reluctant to welcome more students because they don't have enough water. Recently, thanks to our donors, Lifewater Canada installed a rainwater catchment system that includes a large 10,000-litre storage tank and handwashing station. Now the school can gather water during the rainy season for use during the dry season while also improving everyone's hygiene through hand-washing. Because the water shortage has been addressed, Priscilla says her little school is opening its doors to more children who are eager to begin their formal education.
