People living in Kakitya community in Kenya’s Mwingi region would not tell the exact distance from their homes to the water source. This problem came a close second to the very issue of access to water. The distance to water source would often change because whenever the community would dig a shallow well on a dry riverbed to collect water from, because it’s the dry season, the shallow well would dry very first, leading them to try various spots on the lengthy river, while increasing the distance between the possible source of water and their homes. Thankfully, Lifewater Canada recently funded the construction of a new well in the community and installed a hand pump to make the clean water easily accessible. The villagers are grateful not only for having a clean source of water, but to know the exact distance to the water source, for the smooth running of their lives, for a beautiful change.
