Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

The residents of Gunduma Shakodna faced a profound crisis when their community's sole borehole ceased to function. With no means to repair it, a pervasive sense of hopelessness settled over them, as they were forced to endure severe water scarcity. Adamu Tukura, a grateful resident, expresses his deep appreciation. "To the ones who made it their responsible to come to our aid I say thank you so much," he begins. He vividly recounts the challenges: "We only have one borehole in the community, and when it stopped working, we all lost hope because we lack the necessary fund to get the borehole fixed. For so long we had to endure the hardship that came with water scarcity. We struggled to find water every day." The desperation grew, forcing them to resort to dangerous measures: "We had to use unsafe water from a pit on rainy days, and it made us fall sick. Our families suffered, and there was little hope for improvement." This paints a stark picture of a community grappling with constant illness and a future devoid of optimism. However, the intervention of Lifewater brought a dramatic turnaround. "After Lifewater support we now have clean water to drink and make use of," Adamu shares with immense relief. The restoration of their borehole has fundamentally transformed their daily lives. The impact is immediate and deeply felt throughout Gunduma Shakodna. "We no longer worry about illness, and our daily chores have become easier. The change has made the community stronger and our spirits higher." The fear of waterborne diseases has been lifted, and the arduous tasks of daily life are now manageable. This newfound ease has fostered a sense of unity and uplifted the community's morale, replacing despair with a vibrant spirit. "I want to say a heartfelt thank you to Lifewater for restoring our borehole. Your help has turned our lives around. May God bless you abundantly. May your kindness always be returned," Adamu concludes, his heartfelt words reflecting the deep appreciation of the entire Gunduma Shakodna community. This story is a powerful testament to how restoring access to clean water can not only alleviate suffering but also reignite hope, strengthen communal bonds, and profoundly improve the quality of life.
