Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

The Jatau community had long grappled with extreme water scarcity, a hardship that defined their daily lives and brought constant fear of illness. Their struggle was a testament to the profound impact of a broken water source. Alhari Abila, a grateful resident of Jatau, expresses the deep joy and relief that has swept through his village. "My name is Alhari Abila, a resident of Jatau community. With joy in my heart, I thank you all for the rehabilitation of our only borehole," he begins. He vividly recounts the arduous past: "Before now, life was extremely difficult. We relied on a seasonal stream that dried up during the dry season, leaving us to dig into the ground searching for water, just to find a bit of water." This paints a stark picture of a community dependent on an unreliable, disappearing source, forced into desperate measures just to find a meager amount of water. The consequences were severe: "We lived in constant fear of sickness such as typhoid, diarrhea, and skin infections which was common among our children. Our women walked miles under the hot sun just to fetch a jerrycan of muddy water." The constant threat of disease and the sheer physical toll on women were deeply distressing. However, the intervention of Lifewater brought a profound transformation. "But since the borehole was rehabilitated by Lifewater, our story has changed," Alhari shares with immense relief. The restoration of their vital borehole has ushered in a new era of well-being and certainty. The impact is immediate and deeply felt throughout Jatau. "Clean water now flows, and it is close to our homes. Our health has improved, our homes are cleaner, and our hearts are at peace." The consistent availability of clean, accessible water has eliminated the fear of illness, directly leading to better health outcomes and improved hygiene. The burdensome treks for muddy water are a thing of the past, replaced by convenience and a pervasive sense of calm. "We never believed help would come, but you remembered us. May God will reward you abundantly. Thank you so much," Alhari concludes, his heartfelt words reflecting the deep appreciation of the entire Jatau community. The story of Jatau is a powerful testament to how restoring access to clean water can alleviate immense suffering, improve health, and bring invaluable peace and renewed hope to a community that had long struggled.
