Yaamungu community in Kitui’s Mwingi region did not have a clean source of clean water for years. The villagers relied on unsafe hand dug shallow wells in dry riverbeds. The women would collect water from dry riverbeds, hoping that their kids would not get sick from drinking the very water they brought home. Unfortunately, in most cases, their young ones suffered from diarrheal and stomach diseases. However, recently Lifewater Canada with Lifewater RESCUE Kenya to drill a well for the community and installed a new hand pump. The community well is now ensuring that the community has easy access to clean and safe drinking and washing water while keeping water related diseases at bay, especially amongst children.
