On behalf of Katuluni community, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to Lifewater RESCUE Kenya for this project. They gave us a project that is going to be a game-changer to the community in alleviating water challenge in Katuluni village. I wish to sincerely thank the organization for the service and wish them well Yours faithfully Charles Virah.
People living in Katuluni community in Mwingi region would rely on hand dug wells in dry riverbeds to supply them with much needed water. However, the process of collecting water was always long and extraneous. It would take a regular village woman an average of four hours to fill a jerrican of water. This is because the village woman had to get to a river, dig up a shallow well and wait for water to fill the well, before filling her jerrican, and beginning her journey back home. But it would be different if this woman found already dug shallow well but with a long queue, so, she would wait in queue to collect water. Unfortunately, this water she would then take home was not safe for drinking, so even after so much struggle, she ended up exposing her health and those of her loved ones to diseases. Thankfully, all of that has changed; this is because Lifewater Canada and Lifewater RECSUE Kenya partnered to drill a new well for the community and even installed a new hand pump. The residents are happy and grateful to have clean and safe sources of water near their homes.
