Chekami is a small farming community in Kwali Area Council, FCT Abuja, where people depend on farming and small trading to care for their families. For a long time, access to safe water was the hardest struggle. The only source was an open pond far from the main settlement where women and children walked long distances daily to fetch water from the same place animals drank and bathed. During dry season, the pond would dry up, leaving the village stranded. Many people suffered from diarrhea, typhoid and fever. Lifewater provided the community with a new borehole. Safe water now flows within the village, and women no longer wake up before dawn to fetch water. Children attend school on time, and families are healthier and happier. The people of Chekami are deeply grateful to Lifewater. The new borehole has brought peace, health, and joy to every home.
