We, the people of Akapo community, under Kwali Area Council in FCT-Abuja, Nigeria heartly express our profound gratitude to Lifewater Nigeria and its management, staffs and employees for drilling a borehole in the community of Akapo free of charge. We are indeed grateful and pray the Almighty God continue to bless Lifewater with across the border in the name of Almighty God (amen). Yours faithfully, Abdulraham Musa
Akapo is a small community where most households are farmers, goat herders, and small traders. For many years, Akapo had no reliable source of safe water. The only source was a shallow well near the outskirts of the village. When rains came, the well got muddy and filled with runoff. In dry season, the water level dropped so low that people dug holes to collect water. Sometimes the well would go completely dry, forcing people to trek to a distant stream or pond. Women and girls bore most of the burden, setting out before sunrise with empty buckets and walking over an hour to find water. They returned home exhausted. Children often missed school because of water-related illnesses such as diarrhea. Lifewater drilled a new borehole for the villagers. The borehole brought joy and relief to the people. Women no longer leave before dawn to search for water from unsafe sources. Safe water is now available for cooking, drinking, washing, cleaning, and farm work. Because the water is safe, people spend less time and money on medicine, and women have time for other things. The people of Akapo are deeply thankful to Lifewater for this intervention.
