A message from the community

We give thanks to the Almighty Father for the new well we have in our school. The is both a day and boarding school and clean water has always been a great challenge. The water well that is funded by Lifewater Canada is going to change our lives in a positive way. We also thank Lifewater Canada for implementing the project. May God bless you all.

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

Syungii Secondary School is both a day and boarding school. With barely enough facilities to be a boarding school, the school was inspired to offer boarding options to students who would walk for several kilometers to get to school and back home, daily.

The school’s principal Philip Maive, says even though the school has quite a lot of challenges, the biggest one was always access to clean water. “Our students would collect water from the river; the process was always time-consuming and tiring. Sometimes parents would pay school fees by bringing water to school, but it was never enough, and when the river was dry during drought, I can only describe that situation as devastating. But more concerning, was the danger the girls were exposed to when they would go to collect water from the river at night,” says Philip.

To solve the school’s biggest challenge, Lifewater Canada and Lifewater RESCUE Kenya partnered to drill a well for Syungii Secondary school and installed a new hand pump. Every student at the school now has access to clean drinking water and the girls at school feel safe while collecting water from the school well.”
