We, the students at Ngooni Primary School, wish to thank Lifewater Canada for providing our school with a 10,000-litre tank and installing it, and also for a handwashing station so we have enough water to drink and to wash our hands.
Ngooni Primary School in Mwingi Central constituency, in Kenya's Kitui County, has 230 students. They were expected to bring water each day but the line-ups at the community well were so long, and the cost of buying from vendors so high, that most students came to school without any water to drink or to sanitize themselves. This was discouraging for everyone. Recently, thanks to our donors, Lifewater Canada visited the school and installed a rainwater catchment system which includes a large 10,000-litre storage tank and handwashing station. Now the students and staff can gather and store water during the rainy season for use during the dry season -- ensuring their drinking and sanitation needs are met. Headteacher Josphat Musili says the system is the first of its kind in the area.
