I am so grateful to Lifewater Canada for fighting for us in unimaginable ways. We have had water scarcity since the school was started. The Lifewater Canada team has made tremendous steps to get us out of the clutches of water scarcity. The new well marks a new dawn for all of us. We are all very happy. -- Peter Muindi, School Principal
Mwambiu Secondary School has 218 students. It is in Kitui County, in Kenya’s Mwingi region. Rain is very rare there. When it comes, it’s usually brief and erratic. That makes water a very expensive commodity, yet very necessary. The school would spend almost $300 each month to purchase water for the students and staff, which was an enormous amount of money in an impoverished area, says principal Peter Muindi. Then Lifewater Canada donors generously funded the drilling of a deep well and installation of a sturdy hand-powered pump that are providing safe water from deep underground. This water is meeting everyone's drinking and sanitation needs -- at the school and also in the surrounding community.
