A message from the community

Dear Sir/Madame,

It may seem like a simple thing, but this new stand made by our volunteers and Brother Jim, makes it absolutely perfect for cutting screen.  I can now spend long hours cutting screen exactly the way it should be without the casing rolling and making my cuts crooked.  We have an ample supply of hacksaw blades and a couple of new hacksaws as well.  For now I take a course cloth tied to a stick to clean the cuttings out of the middle of the casing and sandpaper to clear off the outer surface as these could interfere with the smooth functioning of the handpump.

I am very happy with my new workstation and tools and want to say thank you for this new job that helps me and my family to live better and makes sure that the drill team have the screen they need to keep the safe water flowing freely in the wells they drill.

Thank you

Sergo

Some community details (provided by our in-country partners)

Each well uses 1-2 pieces of screen.  It is very costly to ship in from the States.  The well screen is made from well casing is readily available here in Haiti. We use the new stand to stabilize the 20' piece of pipe so it can be cut with a hacksaw to have narrow slits at 1" intervals made in 3 linear rows around the 4" casing. The jagged cuttings are smoothed away and the finished pipe is now ready for a new well.  It will allow only water to flow through from the aquifer into the new well.

Every $1 you give provides a child with safe water for a year!
