We, the good citizens of Perkin Town, say thank you for repairing our pump. May God richly bless you. Jerry Gorway, Community Leader |
Some community details (provided by our in-country partners) |
Perkin Town is in rural Margibi County, with most residents being members of the Kpelleh tribe, Liberia's largest ethnic group. Many of the people are pumpkin farmers. Several years ago, Lifewater drilled water wells in Perkin Town, including one at the public school. But about three months ago, after much wear and tear, the hand-powered pumps on the wells began failing. When the pump at the school stopped working, administrators were forced to start buying water they really couldn't afford, and asking students to walk some distance to gather water from other sources. The time fetching this water kept the children out of their classrooms. Thanks to our donors, Lifewater returned to Perkin Town recently and repaired the hand pumps, including this one at the school. The repairs brought great relief to the students and other Perkin Town residents who thanked Lifewater and our donors for providing them with safe water again. They promised to take good care of their pump. |
