Some community details (provided by our in-country partners) |
||||||||||||||||||
Gitata is a highly populated community in Nigeria's Nasarawa State with two water sources, both fraught with danger. Residents must cross a busy highway -- and risk being hit by passing vehicles -- to gather water from shallow hand-dug wells or from a distant river. The journey to and from these sources isn't safe, including due to the possibility of being kidnapped; nor is the water, due to contaminants in it. The community has a much deeper well at the local school but it failed a while ago. When Lifewater learned of Gitata's predicament, thanks to our donors, we visited the community and rehabilitated the broken-down well, including replacing its hand-powered pump. Now residents have safe and easily accessible water, and can live more predictable and productive lives. |
