Aaron Turkett is in the Arthington area of Liberia's Montserrado County. The village of 350 residents and 40 households was hit hard by a storm several years ago that damaged most of the local dwellings and left residents in poor living conditions. While most of the displaced locals have returned to rebuild their homes, their greatest remaining challenge has been access to safe drinking water. When they fled the area during the storm, some parts of the hand pump on their well they had been using since 2015 were stolen. The well was their only source of safe drinking water. Residents began walking long distances to fetch water from swamps and creeks -- exposing them to potentially deadly illnesses. Recently, thanks to our donors, Lifewater visited Aaron Turkett and rehabilitated the well including replacing the broken hand pump. Safe water is flowing from the community well again. Village leaders told us they appreciate Lifewater and its supporters for coming to their aid and providing them with safe drinking water. They have promised to take good care of the pump. |
