Project Summary |
||||||||||||||||||
Wingemi Primary School in Mwingi central constituency, in Kenya's Kitui County, has 289 students. The school would rely on students to bring water to school each day because there was no nearby source. Unfortunately, children had to walk so far during dry seasons that they would never have any time left to be in class. Therefore, says deputy principal Felix Mwikia, teachers would not send students for water for fear that they would not return to school. Recently, the students at Wingemi Primary School were happy beneficiaries of a Lifewater Canada rainwater catchment and storage system provided by our donors. The system includes a large a 10,000-litre storage tank and handwashing station. Although it still rarely rains in the region, the school is in a good position now to harvest enough water to serve the students for months. This is saving the students from making long and frequent trips for water, enabling them to remain in class. |
