Project Summary |

Ndolongwe Primary School in Mwingi central constituency, in Kenya's Kitui County, has 97 students. All were required to bring drinking water from home because there was no source near the school, and walking to one took too much time and energy. “With the kind of drought we are experiencing,” says Headteacher Robert Kane, “it takes hours to get to the nearest water point. A roundtrip would take forever. Children would have no time for their studies.”
Lifewater Canada donors improved the school's fortunes recently by funding the installation of a rainwater harvesting and storage system, including a large 10,000-litre tank and handwashing station. Now, Ndolongwe Primary can gather and store enough water during the rainy season to meet many children's drinking and sanitation needs during the dry season. “This is the only rainwater harvesting and storage tank we have," Robert says. "The tank came with immense change for our students, teachers, and parents.". |
