I thank the Lifewater Canada team for the good job in our school. We have seen so much progress with the tank you provided. It doesn’t just attract students; the availability of water keeps them in class. Thank you for that. -- I am Peter Mbiti, Headteacher, Nguuni Secondary School. |

Project Summary |
||||||||||||||||||
Nguuni Secondary School in Mwingi central constituency, in Kenya's Kitui County has 30 students. It was started recently by community members because there is no other high school in the area, so students were ending their education after only elementary school. With no local water source, Headteacher Peter Mbiti was afraid the school might struggle to keep its students. Therefore, he was delighted when Lifewater Canada donors funded the installation of a rainwater harvesting and storage system that includes a large 10,000-litre tank and hand-washing station. Now, the school can gather water during the rainy season for use during the dry season. The system is not only retaining existing students; it's also attracting other students. "When we started, we had only 14 students," Peter says. "Since we had the tank here, the promise of clean water is attracting many dropouts back to school. It feels like there is life where there wasn’t just months ago." |
