Garuba is one of many people living in Gitaya Farin Doki who were forced to begin drinking from a dirty stream after the hand pump on their local water well stopped working. "We had many problems with safe water after our pump broke down," he told us. "Our women had to walk a kilometre to get water from our local stream, which we share with domestic animals that defecate and pee in it." Drinking this water caused many children and adults to become sick, with several needing to visit the hospital. Lifewater responded, thanks to our generous donors, by replacing the broken hand pump so the well could again produce safe and easily accessible water for everyone. "As a community, we are grateful for the rehabilitation of our well," Garuba says. "May God Almighty bless your donors." |
